Move It Mob Style® has been named as a finalist in one of the TV industry’s most prominent awards – the Australian Subscription Television and Radio Association (ASTRA) Awards.
The Vibe Australia Production which is screening on National Indigenous Television (NITV) is a finalist in the Most Outstanding Children’s Program or Event, along with two other finalists from the Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon.
“I am really proud and excited about the Move It Mob Style® nomination. The crew worked extremely hard on Series 1 and to reach finalist stage in such a credible award is testament to the quality of the television produced,” Executive Producer Gavin Jones says.
“I’d like to thank everyone involved in Move It Mob Style®, NITV for picking the series up and broadcasting it to the community across Australia, and of course the ASTRA Awards themselves for the opportunity to showcase good TV in a context of excellence.”
The finalists reflected the diversity of talent in Subscription TV, both on and off screen, with a combination of familiar names and newcomers, ASTRA said in a press release shortly after finalists were announced for the 10th annual awards.
Move It Mob Style® showcases Aboriginal and Torres Strait culture, music and dance in 16 locations across Australia – all interspersed with health and wellbeing vignettes throughout each episode.
Young people in each of the communities visited choreographed each routine and then performed them with the Move It Mob Style® dancers. Viewers get a taste of varied dance steps from ‘Fishing for Barra’, ‘Make That Fire’ and ‘Wipe That Sweat With Attitude’ – all great fun to dance along too. And there’s plenty of Indigenous music too, with interviews with 16 of Australia’s top Indigenous bands.
Produced by Vibe Australia with support from the Australian Government through the Department of Health and Ageing, the series is a half hour, 20 episode dance based health and fitness show which also profiles Indigenous music across a range of genres including hip hop and popular.
